Royal Liverpool

The Royal Liverpool Golf Club at Hoylake has, over the years, hosted some of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world, including 11 Open Championships, 18 Amateur Championships and both Walker and Curtis Cup matches. Most recently, the Club staged the much acclaimed Open Championship in 2007 won by Tiger Woods, his third Open victory.
Hoylake lies at the very heart of the history of golf in Britain. Visitors will find a treasure trove of memorabilia on show in the impressive Clubhouse with medals dating back to the 1870s, paintings and photographs of the great Hoylake Champions including John Ball, Harold Hilton, J H Taylor, Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen and Roberto de Vicenzo.
It is in the development of the amateur game that Hoylake is perhaps best known by students of the game. The first Amateur Championship was played here in 1885, the first ever international match between England and Scotland in 1902 and the inaugural match between Great Briotain and the USA (later known as the Walker Cup) in 1921.
In the 21st century, the Club savours its traditions and history but is a warm and wonderful Club to visit as well as providing a stern test of golfing skills.
